Full Film - Language

Three young adults living in different parts of the world share their relationship to language and how it affects their experience of community and connection to the people they know. The stories are accompanied by the sole visual of scrapbooked subtitles -- the words are clippings from magazine covers and online ads.

Director Biography - Jocelyn Chaffin

Jocelyn "Josi" Chaffin (she/her) is a fifteen-year-old interested in telling stories about language, culture, and multiracial families and people. Filmmaking is her medium for expressing her passion for storytelling and sharing the voices of young people. Her hobbies include digital illustration, learning languages, and developing her music skills. While participating in The Representation Project's 2021 Youth Media Academy, she created her first film 'Language.'
