Libertad

"Libertad" is an intimate portrait of political refugees from Venezuela, their resilience and love for one another, and their lived experiences of abduction, torture and oppression.

Director Biography - Lea Roger Abi Zeid Daou

My name is Léa Roger Abi Zeid Daou and my work is equal parts artistic expression and critical inquiry. I am an International Law and International Development scholar and practitioner. Some of my most extensive human rights work has been in migratory routes and detention centers in Latin America and in refugee camps in the Middle East. I am currently a doctoral student at McGill University and a SSHRC fellow. I approach the narrative through various realms: the artistic, the anthropological, the sociocultural, the feminist. As a documentary filmmaker, researcher and writer, I seek to phenomenologically and artistically explore, document, and narrate stories left behind.
